Frederick Riddle

On Monday July 29th on the R Frederick Riddle Show  I spoke on Detroit's filing for bankruptcy and on the possibility of a government shutdown over ObamaCare.  These are tough subjects.

I also spoke briefly on the Egyptian army's attempt to return the nation to the democratic norm that came about some two years ago.  It seems that the left has decided to call it a coup, which it wasn't.  Basically it was the army trying to preserve a democracy.

Regarding Detroit, many people have written off the city and consider Detroit as all but dead.  I am not one of them.  I grew up in the shadow of Detroit and respect the people.  Unfortunately they have been exploited by both the city unions and the city government.

You cannot blame the unions entirely.  They are partly to blame, but so are the city politicians who caved in to union demands (much to the unions surprise) and who used their offices for personal gain.

But I believe that the bankruptcy is not a drumbeat preceding death, but a wakeup call to the people of Detroit.  I also believe that Detroiters are fighters.  I don't care if they are black, white, or whatever color, they aren't quitters.  The real question is: can the unions and the city renegotiate their contracts in a fair and equitable manner?  It will be painful, but it is also necessary.  If they do so, then the city has a viable chance to not only survive but grow again.

As for ObamaCare I tackled a very tough subject: Should Republicans use the upcoming Budget as a tool to force defunding of ObamaCare?  There are good arguments on both sides.  I take the side of logic - you'll have to tune in to find out which side that is.
